Typical problems with false eyelashes

Professionally applied and good quality false eyelashes are safe and do not pose a health risk. But not everything may go right after lash application. For example, there are people who may be allergic to such seemingly safe products, and you, as a lash stylist, need to know the possible undesirable reactions. The most obvious case is when the client’s eyes feel burning and watering. If this happens, you should immediately remove the extensions and it is recommended to refer the client to a doctor who will decide whether it is necessary to use any medications.

So said, what to look for after lash application to check out that eyelash extensions are problematic. Let’s look at some most common issues your clients should pay attention to, and what’s more these should not be ignored when they occur.

Tangled or stuck together eyelashes

If the first day after the application it is very hard to comb the eyelashes extensions, or there are visible clumps or balls of glue on the lashes, it definitely means something is wrong. It cannot be considered “normal” or “that’s the way it should be”!

Lashes and extensions are glued together in some sort of “nests” forming an uneven lash line. In addition to looking ugly, this may pose a health risk. Due to a lash growth cycle when the older lashes fall out they can pull fresh lashes with them. That leads to even more visible gaps in the lash line. Moreover, if the eyelashes are tangled or stuck together, it is impossible to properly clean them, which can result in contamination and even inflammation!

Eyelashes do not fall out even after weeks

It may sound strange that false extensions remaining for extremely long period is something that should sound an alarm bell. Isn’t it every client of beauty salon dreams about? Unfortunately, not.

Natural lashes constantly grow according to their growth cycle and naturally fall out in around 6 weeks. If lashes with applied extensions are glued together in the clumps they simply are not able to fall out naturally. Falsies just hang there until all the natural lashes in that glue clump have fallen. This adds more strain to remaining natural lashes causing them even to fall out prematurely. Stuck lashes should be repaired as soon as possible to avoid any more damage! Each lash extension should remain separate from the neighboring eyelashes.

Scratching or stinging after lash application

When it comes to eyelash extensions never believe the saying – “If you want to look beautiful, you have to suffer”.

So, if after you got appointment at lashing studio and your dreams about fabulous, dramatic look came true thanks to new lash extensions, ask yourself some few innocent questions:

Do you feel the eyelash extensions stinging uncomfortably your lid immediately after applying false eyelashes?

Do you feel some strange scratching when you blink your eyes?

Do your eyelashes bother you a bit and it feels like there’s a foreign object in your body?

If you answer yes to one of these questions it means that placement of the lash extensions was not done properly. Extensions must be placed 0.5-1 mm away from the skin along the lash line. If they are too close to the lid, their needle-like base will scratch the skin of the eyelid. And opposite, if the distance from the lid is more than 2 mm, it might put too much strain on the lashes and can make them fall off.

In both cases it should be fixed by experienced lash technician.

Safe lash extensions

Let’s sum it all up. If the extensions are properly done and you are not allergic to them, then:

  • Lashes are beautifully curled and are easy to comb
  • You hardly feel the eyelash extensions when wearing them
  • Eyelash glue cannot be seen with the naked eye
