What do you need to set up a professional lash studio

Professionally done lash service is a guarantee that clients will recommend your beauty studio to other women looking for eyelash extensions. However, this doesn’t just depend on the quality of the tools and materials you use for your work. Apart from professional skills, of course, the equipment of the studio, as well as the feeling of comfort that you provide during the service play the important part. Keeping all that in mind will ensure your success in the beauty and wellness industry.

The type and quantity of equipment depends on whether you work as a lash stylist at home or in a salon, whether you are the only person at work or there is someone else who is greeting clients at the reception desk and also whether you are an employee or you work at your own studio or just renting it. Below you find some useful information and our tips on that and other topics.

Setting up a lash room

Carefully design a layout of a lash room. It must provide enough space for a lash bed and for you and the client to move freely. Think about the convenient places or bins and rolling carts to store all your tools, products and supplies, so that they are always at hand. As no two lash rooms are identical, experiment with furniture placement to find out the layout that is optimal in your space. Do not forget about an air-conditioner with enough power, if there are no windows in the lash room.

Good lash bed is a MUST

The bed is an essential part of any lash room. The ideal lash bed should be comfortable, supportive, and sturdy enough to bear different clients weights. Since the bed is used for several hours every day, think of investing in higher quality product to provide not only more comfort for your clients, but also  to enjoy a longer product lifetime.

Lash extension beds may be fitted with mattress toppers to make the bed more comfortable – you can choose from curved or flat type models. Additionally, get extra cover or top sheet for your lash bed mattress. It will protect the mattress from lint or shedding hair and any oils or dirt that may occur during the lash application.

Lash stylist chair – invest in your health

Next important piece of furniture is the chair, you will be seating during lash application. If you want to make your life easier and your clients happier, consider getting a good lash chair! As it will be used frequently, choose a chair manufactured of premium materials such as leather or vinyl. You can find on the market saddle chairs, round stools, and chairs with backs. Choose the one that suits the best your needs. The best seats have padding to lash comfortably during the procedure. Make sure that seat cushioning is supportive enough and does not cause discomfort or pain. Adjust the chair to the proper height. When sitting down, your feet should lie flat on the floor. If they aren’t, try to lower or raise the seat until they are. This will result in proper blood circulation and prevent any problems with back pain during work.

The wrong chair that makes you feel uncomfortable or hurts your back, will affect how well you do your services.

Professional lash technician light

As with the lash bed and chair, it’s definitely worth investing in a good lighting. Getting flawless eyelashes without proper lighting is almost a mission impossible. Choose a LED lighting, which creates a similar light as a natural one. Stay away from fluorescent lights to avoid ocular strain and inflammation. A good lamp should enable brightness and light intensity adjustments. Ring lights are prefect selections for lash rooms – they can be moved above the client’s head, do not cast a shadow and what’s more important do not get warm or hot when using all day.

Scheduling lash appointments

The lash stylist’s well-being while performing work is just as important as the quality of salon equipment. Having a lot of (happy) clients and booking calendar full of scheduled appointments is a sign that your salon is doing well but working round the clock – not necessarily.

To maintain optimal productivity, we should rest for around 20-30 minutes for every 90 minutes we work. That is one of ergonomics essentials. With this in mind, try to schedule small rest breaks between service appointments. Of course do not waist this time for browsing the social media 🙂 but simply stretch a little your legs, your back and shoulders. You can also do some eye exercises, such as palming or looking into the distance. This way you will feel fresh again and ready for your next lashing service.

Last but not least – customer reception

Your front desk area represents your services and your products. Be it a salon reception area, waiting room or a hallway of an apartment – it should be clean, tidy and welcoming. Make it organized with some seating, a coat stand and a table for magazines or a drink or coffee, if you are forced to ask the client to wait a while.
