Are you ready? Continue reading! Our experts have put together common mistakes that beginner lash artists make, and how to correct them.

Eye pads – make sure you place them correctly

Seems so simple! Who can’t apply eye pads? It turns out that for beginner lash stylist this step can create problems, which… result in more problems. So it’s worth learning how to do it properly.

Remember, if the eye pad is placed incorrectly it will be extremely uncomfortable for your client, and you want her to feel comfortable. But that’s not the end of the story. Improperly placed eye pads will also lift up the inner eye corners. Then the application of eyelashes may not go as planned – there is a risk that you will glue them at the wrong distance or at the wrong angle. You could not notice this during work, but the messy look, when you client opens their eyes, will definitely not be satisfactory.

So how to place the pad correctly?

What’s very important is that the eye pads should never ever be touching the waterline.

Place the pads at least 2mm below the bottom waterline, this way you will avoid bloodshot eyes and scratching the eyeballs.

If the pads don’t fit on your client’s face shape, you can also cut the bottom part of the pads before attaching them.

Don’t be cheap on products – they should always be of high quality. Choose the one with fewer ingredients and they don’t cause irritation to your client’s eyes.

Using not the right amount of adhesive

The reason why your client’s lashes don’t last as long as they should be, may be the amount of lash extension adhesive you’re using. Importantly, both using too little and too much glue can spoil the final look. If too little is applied, the glue will not bind strongly enough and the lash will fall off prematurely. If applied in excessive, you will it will create visible clumps. Remember, more glue is not going to make longer retention.

So how to do it right? How to choose the right amount of glue? To make sure you’re using the correct amount, dip the extension into the middle of the glue dot, and slowly slide out. Ideally, the glue should cover about 2mm from the bottom of the lash extension. Check out our The Queen – eyelash glue for beginners.

Wrong placement of the lash extensions

The distance from the eyelid is incorrect

It requires a lot of practice to get the correct distance between extensions and the eyelid. Beginner stylists often place eyelash extensions either too close or too far from the eyelid base. Neither of these methods is correct. So how should it be done? False eyelashes should be placed 0.5mm away from the skin along the lash line.

Not enough bonding area

Regardless of lash curl, length or direction, it is important that the base of the extension is fully attached to the natural lash for at least 2 mm.

Brushing too many times

Brushing too much does not always help to achieve the best results. Beginner lash stylists do it far too often, making the lashes look too fluffy.

If you believe brushing helps you control the final shape of your lash curtain, do it different way. For example, you can mark the lengths and location of the false lashes on pads that you place under your client’s eyes before work.

What to remember during lash extension application

The first steps are always difficult. However, do not be discouraged. With time you will gain experience and everything will become much easier. What about today? Remember to follow the most important rules. Here they are.

While applying false eyelashes, don’t forget to check the following:

  • Extensions are clean
  • Eye pads are placed correctly
  • Environment temperature and humidity are appropriate
  • You have chosen the right thickness and length of false eyelashes
  • You have chosen the right adhesive for you application
  • Your client feels comfortable
